Friday Jan 30th - Dinner
The first dinner for the New Creation Fellowship group went really well. People were back from the Christmas holidays, ready to start the New Year with Hope in their hearts.
Tim and Lyn have opened their house to the group and converted the un-used back room to the new location for gatherings. They even vacuumed. Using the plastic garden furniture and some old computer desks, they managed to make a table long enough to fit everyone.
11 People joined the festivities. It was a great turn out.
We talked about what Hope meant to us: that the biblical meaning of the word is not a faint hope of something desired, ie, a "wish-list". It is the unbreakable promises of God. Through the Lord's Grace, our present and future is certain and glorious. We know as Christians, despite our hardships and our own wish-lists, that all is well. (Psalm 55:22)
We also spoke of our personal hopes for the year. Interestingly, the hope that came up the most was a desire to walk closer with God this year. To spend more time being with Him, learning of Him, doing His Will.
Lyn read out this passage in the Bible:
Psalm 33:16-18
16 No king is saved by the size of his army;
no warrior escapes by his great strength.
17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance;
despite all its great strength it cannot save.
18 But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him,
on those whose hope is in his unfailing love.
Then dinner was served. We had silverside and gravy, a potato bake, honeyed carrots, home-made bread and salad. For dessert we had vanilla rice pudding. With tea and coffee, gourmet choc chip biscuits were served. Yum.
