Friday, Mar 11th 7.30pm - fast food Tim & Lyn's Games Night - fast food smorgasbord Calendar

Friday March 11th - Cards Night - fast food smorgasbord

Tonight, each person brought with them a meal from a previously agreed fast food outlet. Amanda brought Chinese, Jo brought pizza, Jayson brought KFC, Andy brought fish n chips, Chris brought McDonalds, Tim brought Redskin's and Lyn brought Subway. We all placed it on the table and voila! A Fast-Food smorgasbord.

Num num num.

The amount of grease we willingly and eagerly consumed was an impressive thing. The amusing thing was that the only left-over was a small portion of Subway: the healthiest food (by comparison) on offer.

While we let the food settle, we contemplated the ways in which Jesus is similar to Fast Food:
  • When we partake of either, we then need to exercise. (Exercise our bodies and exercise our faith)

  • We often turn to them for comfort

  • Just as fast food comes in many shapes, sizes and flavours, so too does the body of Christ.

  • The more you have, the more you want

  • When you ask for them, they both come quickly

Then we moved on to the ways in which Jesus is different to Fast Food:
  • Christ says that if we drink from the spring of eternal life we will never be thirsty, but the fast food people want us to remain thirsty so that we keep buying their drinks.

  • Fast Food encourages lazy people to remain lazy; Christ welcomes lazy people, but then changes them.

  • We have to pay for fast food, but Christ is free

  • Christ's promises are fulfilling, unlike the promising smells of KFC

  • With Christ we are given eternal life; with fast food we probably shorten our lives.

These are just some of the samples given tonight. There were also discussions about possible names of food if we opened a Christian fast food place. We could have Resurrection Burgers, or the Trinity meal deals. Discussions went off on a sugar-induced tangent regarding which aspect of the trinity would be which part of the meal...

Bringing the discussion back on focus, we read through John 6: 25-59 and how Jesus said he was the bread of life.

35Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.

Then we played some fun card games and made up our own names for the games also.

Somehow, some of us managed to fit in dessert as well.

We shared in portions of a rice custard from Redskin's, a double choc chip cookie from Subway, a strawberry sundae from McDonalds, and a splice ice-block from the fish n chips shop. It was a great combination, full of creamy goodness.

It was a brilliant night, full of enriching fellowship, thanks to all who took part.
