Friday March 25th - Good Friday Lunch
| Good Friday is a day of reflection on what our Lord has done for us. It is a day where we are reminded of God's love for us that he would sacrifice his own son for us. To save us Christ had to go through the pain, the humiliation, the betrayal, the agony. He allowed himself to be nailed to the cross. He did all this for us and he planned it from the very beginning of time. |
|
Everyone took part and added in ingredients, made suggestions, mixed and kneeded. |
This year, we chose to spend Good Friday in fellowship. We had a roast lunch which included roasted home-grown pumpkin, beetroot, corn and coleslaw. The dessert was to be the main focus: home-made hot-cross buns... home-made by us. Gathering in the kitchen, we created a cloud of flour dust that billowed up into the air and settled on anyone who wore dark clothing.

We
got rather creative with the added extras that were to go into the hot
cross buns. Not only did raisins go in, but also dark chocolate buds,
M&M's, white chocolate buds, strawberry and orange flavoured raisins,
and I think even chocolate coated nuts went in also. What made it really
interesting was when the M&M's colour bled through the dough.
|
| While
waiting for the dough to rise, we gathered in the back room and relaxed
over a number of amusing games of cards. There were clear winners for
Warlords and Scumbags.
When it was time to ready the dough for cooking, and place the crosses on the buns, we threw away the recipe and used instead the left-over chocolate buds. Sarah's bun resembled something like Mickey-Mouse with big ears of white chocolate sticking out of the dough. When we placed them in the oven, the house filled with the smell of cooking hot cross buns. To our surprise, they came out beautifully, golden brown and scrumptious (even the funny-coloured ones). |

It was another great day of fellowship with the Lord's presence felt among us. Good Friday should not be a day of mourning, but a day of clinging to our Lord. It should be a day of thanksgiving, a day of reminder of all the things Christ has done for us, and a day of reflection on the magnitude of what he has done for us. Our Good Friday was a day of fellowship; with God and with each other. ---- |
